The Light After Service: A Warrior's Solar Mission

In the sun-drenched streets of Thiruvananthapuram, a figure moves across a rooftop with the same careful precision he once used to approach unexploded ordnance in South Sudan. Ullas Chandra's hands, which once delicately dismantled bombs, now piece together the future of Kerala's energy landscape, one solar panel at a time.Long before he learned to harness the power of the sun, young Ullas dreamed of serving his nation. The walls of his childhood home in Kerala's capital couldn't contain his aspirations. After completing his SSLC, he found his calling in the Indian Army's Field Company, where the military recognized something special in the young electrician – a steady hand and an unshakeable nerve that would serve him well in the years to come.

The army became his second home and his greatest teacher. Through its support, he earned his diploma at the SFF School, but it was in the shadow of danger that Ullas truly found his calling. As a member of the bomb disposal squad, every day brought a deadly puzzle that only the steadiest hands and clearest minds could solve. In the tense moments of Operation Black Rose, where one wrong move could mean disaster, Ullas learned lessons that would shape his future in unexpected ways.

Most saw it as the end of a chapter, but for Ullas, it was the beginning of a new mission. A five-day entrepreneurship program through I Create India sparked something in him – a way to continue serving by building something sustainable for his homeland.

Drawing on his electrical expertise and the discipline learned in the army, Ullas dove deep into the world of solar energy. He assembled a team of six technicians and launched into his new enterprise of installing solar panels.

His first solar installation project was a test of faith – both his customer's and his own. With 75% of the payment upfront and 15 days to prove himself, its successful completion was validation of everything the army had taught him and the rigorous entrepreneurship training from I Create India.

Today, Ullas still climbs every roof himself, inspecting each installation with the same attention and care. His customers often find him on their rooftops, carefully adjusting panels, ensuring every connection is perfect. As India pushes toward a sustainable future, Ullas Chandra's story shines as bright as the panels he installs. His vision extends beyond his hometown to other districts in Kerala, carrying with it the promise of cleaner energy and brighter futures.

In every solar panel he installs, there's an echo of the precision that once saved lives in remote corners of the earth. In every successful project, there's a reflection of the discipline that carried him through Operation Black Rose. And in every satisfied customer, there's proof that a soldier's commitment to service never really ends – it just finds new ways to light up the world.
